At least one consumer already has a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4

At least one consumer appears to have obtained a retail copy of Cyberpunk 2077, ahead of its official release next month.

The Reddit user posted an image of a PS4 retail box this weekend, followed by more than 20 minutes of gameplay footage which was later pulled, but mirrored on the NeoGAF forum.

The footage posted by the Reddit user would likely not include any day one updates CD Projekt has planned for the game.

Cyberpunk 2077’s release date was recently pushed back by 21 days to December 10, marking a third delay for a game originally scheduled to launch in April.

In a follow-up call with investors in October, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski suggested the game’s latest delay could be due to specific issues with the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.

“The game for PC is ready and plays well on next-gen consoles and the company is finalising the process concerning current gen consoles,” he said.

A Reddit user posted this image of a Cyberpunk 2077 retail copy obtained before release.

He also claimed the delay would lead to a “better initial reaction” to the product, resulting in greater sales. “The decision was not easy but we know there is just one release and the first impression is crucial.”

Last week CD Projekt Red debuted the first footage of Cyberpunk 2077 running on consoles. A new 10-minute video switches between Xbox One X and Xbox Series X gameplay, which is shown running via the console’s backwards compatibility feature.

A PlayStation gameplay video is also planned for release, CD Projekt said, with a specific date set to be revealed in the near future via the game’s official channels.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Stadia. The game will also be playable on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles via backwards compatibility.

At a later date, a “proper, full-blown next-gen version” of Cyberpunk 2077 will be released, available for free to owners of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.

CD Projekt has previously said that current-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will look better on next-gen consoles on day one, while a more significant next-gen release will improve performance further in 2021.
