CDPR have been one of the few companies who weren’t banking on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X compatibility to up their advertisement game, but they decided to remind everyone just in case.
Not that PS5/XSX compatibility isn’t a big deal – it most certainly is – but Cyberpunk 2077’s stellar popularity made it almost exempt from such enquiries at mass scale. I mean c’mon, we were all hyped out of our minds over it before PS5/XSX were even close to reality.
Nevertheless, CD Projekt Red said it before and they recently decided to remind everyone of their earlier statement, where they said that buying Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One won’t be an issue. In other words, slot the disk in, or load it digitally, and play away.
As you’d expect with next-gen editions of easily the most anticipated game around, Cyberpunk 2077 will make use of all the PS5 and XSX horsepower, delivering enhancements that will make the game even prettier than it actually is.
CDPR promised a “more robust” day one update for PS5 and XSX owners, so there’ll be some downloading involved, but in return – you’ll get to experience Cyberpunk 2077 with far more visual sheen than its predecessors.
Knowing the added juice that next-gen brings, we’re guessing that some of Cyberpunk 2077 features
reserved for PC
will make it to next-gen consoles. We’re still generations (yes, multiple generations) away from fully ray-traced games, but strategic implementation thereof is possible with some clever thinking.
PC players of Cyberpunk 2077 will get ray-traced implementations of diffuse illumination, reflections, ambient occlusion and shadows, so here’s to hoping that day one update on PS5 and XSX will bring those to consoles as well.
